Frisbee Golf

I came up with a good idea.  Jason and I have pretty different hobbies with a couple overlaps.  Most of the overlaps aren't really things you can do down here in Socal.  So, I thought we could each pick one interest to do together.  We each had one veto.  My choice was German.  Jason's choice was frisbee golf.  I had played it once but didn't have any natural talent in it and therefore hated it.

This evening we decided to go frisbee golfing with Jesse and Louisa at a nearby park.  We bought me a new red and white frisbee and set out.  I lost by a lot the first game but then we played teams.  Jason and I won by one point because I got a HOLE IN ONE!  It was pretty cool even if it was an anomaly.

Another Audition

Today I went to another audition.  This one was in Los Angeles though in the middle of the day.  I had to get a sub for my class. I wouldn't usually miss work for an audition, but this one was for the host of a budget travel show.
They called me into a room first where I recited some lines that they had me memorize.  That didn't go very well, I will be honest.  The lines sounded great in the car!  :]  But when I said them in the room, I was all shaky and fumbly.  They let me do it again but I did worse!  It was pretty discouraging...  Then they had me improv a conversation with a simulated tour guide.  That one I did pretty well at and they said that was exactly what they were looking for.  Not that that means anything really, but at least I had a chance to quasi redeem myself so I wouldn't feel bad for the rest of the day.  Anyway, here I am waiting for elevator after finishing the audition.

You can see they had a pretty nice view out their windows.  They were on the 11th floor.

Audition for Sarah, Plain and Tall

Tonight I auditioned for a local play called Sarah, Plain and Tall. Here I am about to go into the theater to audition.

I walked in and stood in line for a long time. After about 15 minutes, the lady who was signing us in, yelled to one of her helpers, "Hey can you ask the director what she wants me to tell the people who didn't know they were supposed to prepare a monologue?" My heart did a flip. I was one of those people. I was worried but not insanely so because at least I knew there were others in my same situation.  The helper came back and said that the unprepared people should just recite something they have memorized.... like the Declaration of Independence or something. Hmm. Well, I did memorize that one poem a couple years ago. I quickly looked up the poem on my iPhone and relearned it. Turns out I had plenty of time to do so since I ended up waiting 2 hours!

When I finally got into the audition room, I told them I could make up a monologue or recite a poem. They asked me which one would better showcase my skills. When I hesitated, they asked me to recite the poem. I was worried about the poem (If you were coming in the fall, by Emily Dickenson) because I hadn't ever recited it out loud. I didn't know if would turn out any good. Well, I recited it and it worked really well! Now I know what to do if I am unprepared again. We will see if I got a part. I will keep you updated.

Falafel

I have been in the mood for Middle Eastern food for like....... 4 months. I heard about one such restaurant nearby so Jason and I have been meaning to visit it. Tonight, we did. He got the veggie plate and I got the falafel plate. They were basically the same except he had only 3 falafels and I had 6. He also had some tabouli, roasted potatoes and saffron rice. So, I think I would order his plate next time. Anyway, I really liked it! Really good falafels! Yummy everything!

Test Writing...

Tonight I was up late writing a test for my advanced reading class.  We just finished the book "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie.  Boy, it was a close call!  I almost forgot to take a picture today.  I remembered it at literally the last minute!

First Day of School!

Well, today CPC celebrated the beginning of its second school year in operation!  I am still very excited to be part of this venture.  Here is a picture of our school.  My office window is the one that the stairs end under.

Rook

Tonight we played Rook with Jesse and Louisa.  This time we played set partner which made the strategy a lot more intricate.  But anyway, I can't remember who won.  I think it was probably the boys.  We all had a great time!

Jumpstart Rally Day 2

Today was the second day of the rally. I took pictures from 8:00am to 5:30pm.  Let me tell you, photography is hard work!  It is fun to get some good shots but when you are standing in 100 degree weather shooting with a huge lens with a camera bag pulling your back out of place, it really starts to wear on you.

Today the kids met in groups, listened to another great speaker, Christian Moore, and did the ropes course.  They did a lot of teamwork activities and I really wanted to join in...  :]   They also tried the rock climbing wall.  Here is one girl on the wall.

Here are some guys trying to figure out how to get their team from one place to another using a couple of boards that were too short to work.

They figured it out though!  It was a fun day but I am REALLY tired!

Antwone Fisher

My mother just finished up her Master's in marriage and family therapy and is about to start her doctorate program.  This summer, decided to put on a rally for the foster children of Riverside county.  It was a huge undertaking and she worked really hard and it turned out great.  Anyway, she asked me if I would volunteer to be the photographer for the weekend.  It was really just because Jason wasn't available but hey, whatever.  It went pretty well as far as photography goes except for a couple of the kids thought that they would choose me to pick on me (some things never change) and copped an attitude every time I would put the camera up to my eye.  Most of the kids were really nice to me and excited that they would be getting pictures of the weekend.  There are always a few in every crowd that have to make a scene though.

The speaker at the rally tonight was none other than Antwone Fisher.  If you haven't seen the movie by that name yet, I encourage you to do so.  He was a very good, down-to-earth speaker.  Here is a picture of him speaking.

Take me out to the ballgame.....

First and foremost, I would like to say happy birthday to my big brother Michael!  Happy 40th!!  Just kidding, happy 27th!  :]

Tonight, CPC (the college I work at) went to an Angels game. It was pretty fun. It was hat night so everyone got hats! We cheered hard for the Angels even though I only vaguely realized there was a team by that name before arriving at the stadium. :] Louisa and I went because Jason couldn't use his ticket. He recently started his OB rotation and had to get up at 4am.

I brought some snacks and got heavily made fun of. I brought edamame beans, fruit leather, and trail mix. I swear I would have brought something more baseball game-ish if it was readily available at my house! Louisa and I made up for their taunts by getting ourselves a giant nachos each. The game was fun but the traffic coming home was insane. Too bad the Angels lost. But I will be honest..... I don't care that much...... ;]

Honesty

I think that I need to look back on this time in my life and remember it for what it truly is.  What is it?  Well, a lot of dishes.

I have decided that not having a dishwasher in the future is not an option.  Here is my sink tonight before I started washing.  I filled up the dry rack and a towel on the counter but I still have a lot to go.  Ugh....

Hot Dog...

As you may have gathered, Mosey destroys things a lot.  Luckily they are mostly his toys.  But I have gotten frustrated of bringing home an expensive 'indestructible' chew toy only to see it lying it pieces 15 minutes later.  Or worse, seeing only a couple pieces left after Mosey has ingested the rest.  He especially likes to tear apart stuffed toys.  Here he is with his long stuffed dog.

We got so sick of him destroying things awhile back that we put away all of his toys except his rawhides and nylabones.  Those are supposed to be destroyed.  He has been bored lately so I got out his long dog.  He has already chewed off the the head and the tail and removed 1/8 of the stuffing.  I gave it to him and he immediately ran happily around the house flinging it in the air.  I got a picture of him just as he was settling down to begin the destruction process.  I thought this was an interesting picture because his eyes seemed to be the same color as his toy.

Attack!

Jason was just sitting innocently on our outdoor daybed sipping some orange juice

when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, a ravenous Mosey Monster attacked!

But.... he was no match for Jason. After being roundly chastised, the Mosey Monster sat in a corner and sulked at his defeat.

Sleepy Heads

Here is my husband and my doggie sleeping. Notice Jason's clean-shaven face. This is the first time in at least 3 years that he has shaved all the way down to his skin because I prefer him with stubble. He says he is afraid he would look too disheveled for his work in the hospital if he kept the stubble. Oh well, I am sure he will get tired of shaving soon enough and go back to the way I want. :]

Big River

Tonight I was able to talk Jason in to going with me to the Redlands Theater Festival. This is different than the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival that has been featured in previous posts. This festival is also held outdoors but at the outdoor theater in Prospect Park. We watched Big River which is the story about Huckleberry Finn. It was good. I enjoyed it for the most part but found that it was too long. I feel that way about most concerts (which makes me strange to most people), but was dismayed to find that I felt that way about a play. I think if it wasn't a musical it would've been easier to pay attention to. :] Maybe it is just music in general I don't appreciate much..... Nah, can't be.

Soup 'n Salad

Tonight we went over the Crystal and Ivan 's house. They had some other friends over and we all ate some delicious soup and salad. YUM! It was fun.

My Precious........

Mosey has become very attached to some of his rawhide bones. Inexplicably, he has recently started to become a little neurotic with them as well. He tries to bury them several times a day and being that he is a mostly inside dog, that means he has to be creative with his hiding spots. Here he is after burying the bone in the back of the loveseat.

70's Gameshow

Tonight at school we hosted a 70's style gameshow with our students. Here is my co-worker Christina, with her hair styled to match.

There was a math bee, a spelling bee, a dance dance revolution contest, and a karaoke contest. The prizes were scholarships. It was very fun. Here I am in my outfit.

This dress is my mom's. She bought it in 1976. It was a really great night!

Death and Destruction

Well, my plant is pretty much dead. The other day, half of it randomly fell off. Then today, the same wound appeared on the other half. I believe the wounds may be Mosey teeth marks......

Eat, Pray, Love and Being Anal.....

Ok, so I can't help it. I love the book! But really, they misprinted the Italian verb mangiare several times! I know that it shouldn't bother me, but it kind of does. Actually, I am pathetic because I KNOW that it is spelled wrong but because I saw it spelled wrong so many times in this published (bestseller) book, I started to doubt my own knowledge. So I looked it up and I am definitely right. So there. Anyway, I will write a full review as soon as I finish.

Photo Shoot

My friend Crystal is a budding photographer and is always looking for volunteer models. I am sometimes a ham and like to see myself how other people see me (why do you think I picked this blog name?) so I volunteered! Today we went and had a great time shooting pictures. The photos turned out great!! She has a lot of talent. This is my favorite picture.

It is low quality because I copied it off of myspace. I will update them with better quality shots when I get the originals. Here is Jason's favorite picture:

I guess we have pretty different taste! :]

The Olympics Begin...

Here is Jason watching the first of Michael Phelps' swims. Very exciting!

African/Jazz Fusion?

Tonight, Jason and I went to a performance at the Redlands Bowl.  I talked Jason into going when he just wanted to stay home and watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics.  I was adamant that he go with me as he had never experienced the Redlands Bowl.

I had been looking forward to this dance group for a long time.  It was advertised as a fusion of African and jazz dances.  I was very excited as I pictured a strong beat and amazing cutting edge dance moves.  What we got for the first couple songs was dancers in clown outfits doing some jazz and African dance moves to some utterly beat-less classical music.  When I say jazz and African dance moves, I mean it was mostly jazz with a couple of African moves inexplicably thrown in at random beat-less times.

There was one song I really liked as it showcased some very talented drummers.  But other than that, I was very disappointed.  We left at intermission and still missed the exciting part of the opening ceremonies.  Hmmm...  I hope I can get Jason to go with me again...

Enchilizzas and Friends

I have known Crystal since the 7th grade.  Her name conjures up summer for me.  Humidity, fireflies, warm Texas nights, and Brahm's ice cream.  Almost all of my summers were spent at my grandparents house in Texas until I was a junior in high school.  It is amazing how quickly friendships can form when one is young.  My friendship with her, as well as Ginger, Alyssa, and Stephanie, was cultivated during a month long visit to Texas.  After that, I never visited for longer than that.  Even though they hadn't seen me for a year, each summer they treated me like I had been gone for a day.  Everyone needs friends like that.

Tonight, Crystal and her husband Ivan , who is here for dental school, came over for dinner.  Jason made his famous enchilizzas.  Which are basically pizzas made with enchilada sauce and other goodies.  Yum!  After that we had fresh peach pie (such a good one!) and great conversation.  I hope to have many more 'dinner parties' like this one.

Peach Pie

In preparation for some dinner guests tomorrow night, I made a fresh peach pie.  YUM!  This is my favorite kind of fresh fruit pie and I looking forward to eating it tomorrow.  It is also the one that takes the longest to make as I have to skin and cut the fruit.  Ah well, it is worth it.

A Perfect Martyr

I had to cut Mosey's toenails tonight.  I was getting scratched every time he jumped on my lap for a snuggle.  It used to be that he would go berserk when it was time for this hygienic tradition.  Lately he has been a lot better but I have still had to hold him tightly.  This time though, he rolled out of my arms onto his back on the floor where he laid quietly and resignedly while I did all of his toenails.  He was just like a little child who won't look at the needle when it is time for a shot.

Result

Well.  It didn't turn out quite like I was hoping.  I got more of a kinky, crunchy (thanks to the gel), partially wet hairdo.  I had to just put it up in a ponytail today.

Man, I am just horrible with hair...I guess I will have to find a better way to get curly volume.  Hot rollers maybe?

A Hair Experiment

So I have been trying to think of a way to make my hair nice and curly (big curls) without the hassle and symmetry of a curling iron.  I thought maybe putting my hair in a tight bun while it was damp with some gel would work.  I am sleeping with it tonight and I have high hopes for the morning.  We will see what happens!

Oceanside

My mom went down to Oceanside to run in a 5k today.  Jason and I didn't want to get up at 5am to go so we took the train down and met her after she finished.  It was a very beautiful train ride!  I really loved it.  It follows the beach for about 30 minutes.  Basically, we ate.  Then we drove around and couldn't think of anything to do so we went to San Juan Capistrano and looked at a fountain shop.  Here are my favorite ones.

After we got home, we met up with Jesse and Louisa and ate at Ranu which has some great Thai food.  Then we went home and played Rook.  I am usually not that great at Rook.  I usually have to re-learn it every time we play.  This time however, I must say I was pretty lucky  First of all, I usually got dealt good hands.  Then, they gave me my bids really low.  In the end, I won every round.  I got to 500 points in 3 rounds.  I won the second game too.  I even won the hands that I didn't bid on.  I was definitely on fire.  :]  Just had to share my success story for posterity's sake.

Improv Performance

Tonight my improv team, Night Light Improv, performed as we do the first Friday of every month.  Tonight though, was epic.  The audience was amazing, we were all on fire, and the sermonette was awesome!  We played tons of funs games and the audience really got involved.  It is nights like this that keep me coming back for more!  Here we are playing slow motion olympics.

We were racing in slow motion to win the gold medal in sheet washing, I pulled a muscle and was disqualified if you want to know the outcome.  :]

Amazon Food Subscription

Jason looked into the Amazon food subscription service.  Basically, you can subscribe to food through Amazon.  Every month or whenever, you will receive your amount of food.  If you sign up for the subscription plan, I believe you get free shipping.  Here is our first subscription.

Curry paste!  Yum.  We will find out soon if it really is yum or not....  I will keep you posted.
